Hyde Park

It is rare
to be alone with someone
in public
in this city,
alone in a way
where there is not even
a hint of the Other
in your views,
enveloped in the darkness
and stumbling around
with your half-drunk
cans and bottles,
caps tucked away in a purse
as to leave no trace
of your slightly illicit adventure
that could only result
in a slight telling-off
at the very worst,
the shadows and grand statues
and sleeping birds
next to a briny-smelling pond
your guides amongst the
trees.
